Hiring + Onboarding. Remotely.

Two big news drops this week (tuning out the US elections and #domnicgoings for just one moment): a vaccine is looking extremely promising, and a new YouGov poll says on 7% of workers actually want to go back to the office full time. Most want a blend of office and home working, which means mass-remote, in some form, is here to stay.

I’ve been talking to people who have been hired and started roles in since lockdown to understand the challenges of it.

Big themes are:

  • Needing vastly more management time than they or their manager wish

  • Missing the inside jokes and politics

  • How much effort it takes to build a network beyond your immediate team

Happily Dominie Moss (founder of The Return Hub) and Upsana Bhadhal (Head Hunter and Inclusion and Diversity Strategist) were on hand to give us their quick tips on the subject; also summarised into this handy chart.

Looks like both the British and US governments could do with some help hiring and onboarding this week…we’ll let you know when Boris calls!
