We need to talk about lockdown trauma.

I booked this conversation with coach Audrey Wiggin to talk about how to keep productive and motivated while working in hybrid. And we did just that: exploring the smart habits, processes, and practices that will help us thrive. Including why simply driving to the gym carpark could help you lose a few stone.

But the conversation then took an unexpected turn as Audrey described how some of her clients were experiencing lockdown trauma, triggered by a pile-on of work pressures.

For example: managing businesses in free-fall, while also homeschooling and supporting unwell family members—causing relentless palpitating stress. (Which many have not had a chance to recover from, even as we approach future lockdowns.)

Talking to others—including Caroline Pankhurst—and those managing businesses, I’ve realised that lockdown trauma happens when a number of different pressures collide at the same time. Money worries / laying people off / pressure at home / illness around you.

Next week we’ll explore how we can lose nuance through the screen.

And if you are about to enter a higher tier of lockdown, take special care.
